Sundays Hair | Embracing the Fro...

As of late you folks know I've been ranting on and on about my transition, wanting to chop and not wanting to chop etc etc. Well just yesterday after a few hours spent drooling over hair pics for hairspiration on Tumblr, I had a 'You Go Girl' moment and decided I was going to embrace a braidout by fire by force! [African parent saying #inherited!]

Anyway my wash was great, I spent so long in the shower pouring water on my hair just so I could see the waves that have formed so beautifully at my roots, and then followed up with the whole Leave-In Conditioner, Moisturise and Seal Routine... you know how it goes! Finally I threw my hair in approximately 10 braids, secured my headscarf and off to bed I went.

Now as for this morning, I got ready, makeup on and outfit in check so onto some braid unravelling. As usual I wasn't feeling the initial look but knew I was still to fluff out each braid and play about with the look.

Well, even after fluffing and styling the results were EPIC... in fact so horrendous I almost skipped some church time with the big guy just because I was throwing one serious strop. Of course y'all know I did NOT take pictures! I mean shoot I could have done my camera some serious damage with the mood I was in!

Anyway after church I had completely let the early morning hair casualty go, and infact decided to play with my hair some more! I drizzled some of my favourite oil [Coconut Mmm!] on my hair and did a few 'I whip my hair back and forth' hair moves, only to find that I actually love how full of body and free my hair is like this! I guess this journey isn't so bad after all!

Up in a high textured bun it goes for work tomorrow ^_^

P.s. I reached 10 months post earlier this week! Bring on another... 14?

I'll see how long I last!

Any other transitioning sisters out there craving to BC and stretch all at the same time?

Avec amour...
Fiona

  2. I'm transitioning too, I'm 9 1/2 months post. At the beginning of my transition I was thinking of doing a 2 year transition but like you I don't think I can wait that long. I think now I'm going to BC around the 1 year mark at the end of the year. I can't wait to be fully natural! x

  3. I am totally in the same boat. I'm currently 15 months post hoping to get to 24! I've been addicted to my trusty high bun, I haven't been as brave as you to try a braid out or twist out.

Tumblr is always a great inspiration and motivation I use mine for the exact same thing, I can't wait for my fro to arrive in all it's glory!

    1. Ola I hear you! Buns are so easy and simple, in fact I find them to be super low manipulation. If they've gotten you this far then hey! You have a lifetime of twist/braid outs ahead of you!

  4. This post was hilarious, but I completely understand skipping church when the hair turns out horrendously - I've done it before! Your hair looks awesome, so freakin full and healthy!

  5. I'm only 7 months into my transition but I feel ya. I think about a big chop just about everyday but I know a TWA is not for me. Right now I'm protective styling via box braids. Next I will do Goddess braids.

  6. Hi Fiona,
I recently stumbled accross your blog and I love it, it has made me believe that my hair can grow. I recently relaxed my hair and my stylist advised not to use shampoo on my hair until my next treatment in 3 weeks. Its contrary to your regime i.e. wash /cowash once a week, I am confused, please help. Also is it ok to apply JBCO to recently relaxed hair.
    Thank you

    1. Hi Anon, my regime is specific to what my hair takes well to. I don't however understand why your stylist suggests you dont wash your hair till your next treatment, did they say why? As for JBCO this is okay to use at any point during your hair journey. x

  9. hey just stumbled upon this blog. I kno exactly how u feel. as soon as I see someone that's completely natural I'm ready to BC, or better yet after washing and not wanting to detangle. anywho I'm like 14 months post and trying to make it to 24. it's forced me to get real creative with styles. if my hair is textured from a twist out or braid out my go to if it doesn't look right is a high bun. also u should try a twist n curl, absolutely perfect for transitioners!
hope it helped n btw r u Nigerian?
